Prediction Method and Validation Study of Tensile Performance of Reinforced Armor Layer in Marine Flexible Pipe/Cables

Marine flexible pipe/cables, such as umbilicals, pipes and cryogenic hoses, are widely adopted in ocean engineering. The reinforcing armor layer these pipe/cables is the main component for bearing loads, which a typical multi-layer helically wound slender structure with different winding angles devices. There has been no general theoretical methodology to describe tensile performance of pipe/cables. This paper first introduces theory solve mechanical behavior structure. Based on curved beam theory, solution stress derived. Then, deformation mechanism marine studied. Through comparing numerical results, characteristic further explained. It found that sectional torsional generates when larger angle under tension condition, while smaller mainly tension. Finally, couple types condition provided analyze compare difference between models. research conclusion from this provides useful reference structural analysis design
